India: Growth Opportunity with Execution Risk

India presents a significant potential expansion market for Interparfums because beauty consumption and premiumization are advancing simultaneously. India’s beauty and personal care market is projected to reach approximately $30 billion by 2027 and is growing at approximately 10% annually (India Brand Equity Foundation [IBEF], 2026a). Separate perfume-market research estimates approximately $2.35 billion in Indian perfume revenue during 2024 and projects approximately $4.08 billion by 2030, representing a 9.6% compound annual growth rate from 2025 through 2030 (Grand View Research, 2025).

Consumer behavior strengthens the expansion case. McKinsey & Company (2025) found that 58% of surveyed Indian consumers increased beauty purchase frequency during the preceding 12 months, compared with 28% across other surveyed geographies excluding Brazil. Rising wealth has also contributed to movement from lower-priced beauty products toward mid- and upper-level offerings. Premium brands therefore have an opportunity to capture aspirational consumers through accessible entry products and targeted sampling (McKinsey & Company, 2025).

Digital commerce provides another expansion mechanism. Indian beauty e-commerce and quick-commerce sales increased 39% in value between June and November 2024 compared with the corresponding prior-year period, while physical-store beauty sales increased only 3%. The percentage of Indian consumers purchasing beauty products online also increased from 13% in 2023 to 17% in 2024 (IBEF, 2025). A digitally supported distribution strategy could therefore complement prestige department stores and luxury retail locations.

Competitive Environment

Competition creates an important constraint. The Indian fragrance market remained highly fragmented during 2025. Baccarose Perfumes & Beauty Products, associated with Versace distribution, held approximately 16% value share, while digital-first companies such as Bella Vita continued gaining market presence (Euromonitor International, 2026). International groups represented in the broader perfume market include LVMH, Estée Lauder Companies, Puig, L’Oréal, Coty, and other established fragrance competitors (Grand View Research, 2025).

Competition also extends beyond traditional global luxury houses. Domestic companies can compete through lower price points, digital-first distribution, local consumer knowledge, and culturally specific positioning. Bella Vita, for example, generated more than ₹450 crore in FY2025 revenue, while established domestic brands such as Wild Stone continue competing in the mass fragrance category (Brickwork Ratings, 2026). The resulting competitive structure places Interparfums between global prestige competitors and rapidly developing domestic fragrance companies.

Interparfums also faces a company-specific challenge. During the first nine months of 2025, Asia-Pacific sales declined 9%, partly because of distribution challenges in South Korea and India (Interparfums, Inc., 2025). Consequently, additional Indian expansion should not be treated as a simple geographic rollout. Distribution performance, channel selection, inventory availability, consumer acquisition costs, and regional demand require measurement before large-scale expansion.

A phased market-entry model therefore provides a more analytically supported strategy than immediate nationwide expansion. Initial concentration within major metropolitan markets could generate consumer, sales, pricing, and channel data before broader geographic deployment.

Key BI Indicators: market growth rate, sales by distribution channel, customer acquisition cost, average transaction value, sampling-to-purchase conversion, repeat purchase rate, inventory turnover, city-level revenue, and gross margin.
