Fragrance Discovery: Using Business Intelligence to Drive Customer Engagement

Interparfums, Inc. develops, manufactures, markets, and distributes prestige fragrances through an international portfolio of licensed brands. The company operates across European and U.S. business segments, with products distributed in more than 120 countries (Interparfums, Inc.,2026). This international presence provides a foundation for exploring data-driven promotional strategies designed to strengthen consumer engagement and brand awareness. Interparfums, Inc. operates in the global prestige fragrance industry, developing and distributing fragrances across multiple brands and international markets. Building on my previous financial and business intelligence analyses of Interparfums, this project shifts the focus from financial performance to consumer behavior and promotional decision-making. While financial ratios provide insight into organizational profitability and liquidity, marketing analytics can help explain how customer engagement, purchasing behavior, and promotional investments contribute to revenue growth.

For this scenario, I recommend a hypothetical promotional campaign titled “The Interparfums Global Fragrance Discovery Sweepstakes.” The event would encourage eligible consumers to explore participating fragrance brands, register for a promotional drawing, and complete an optional fragrance-preference questionnaire. The grand prize would be a trip for two to Hawaii, with additional prizes consisting of fragrance discovery collections and promotional gift packages.

The proposed Global Fragrance Discovery Sweepstakes would support Interparfums’ broader emphasis on marketing investment and international brand development. In its 2025 annual report, the company discusses promotional programs, digital sales platforms, and disciplined return-on investment decisions, reinforcing the importance of measuring promotional effectiveness (Interparfums, Inc., 2026).

The campaign would pursue three business objectives: increase consumer engagement, expand the pool of opted-in marketing contacts, and identify customer segments with stronger purchasing potential. A promotional landing page, participating retail partners, email campaigns, and social media advertising would support consumer participation.

From a Business Intelligence and Analytics (BIA) perspective, this event creates an opportunity to apply descriptive statistics, probability distributions, conditional probability, and predictive modeling. These techniques would allow Interparfums to move beyond measuring total participation and begin evaluating which customer groups are reached, how fairly prizes are distributed, and where future marketing investments could generate the greatest value.

The campaign should also distinguish between promotional eligibility and marketing consent. Consumers should be able to enter the sweepstakes without agreeing to receive future advertising or making a purchase, subject to applicable laws and official contest rules.

Proposed Marketing Framework

This framework supports the distinction between descriptive analytics, which explains observed customer patterns, and predictive analytics, which estimates potential future outcomes. The promotional campaign would initially use descriptive analysis to establish a baseline, followed by Bayesian probability modeling as new campaign data become available.
